Ewald Foundation - Scholarship Eligibility

Eligibility for Scholarship Awards

  • There are no examinations to take.
  • The award winners may attend any accredited college of his or her choice; and must attend full time (at least 12 hours per semester).
  • The scholarship is for a maximum of four years.
  • Only graduating high school students residing in the metropolitan Detroit area, and entering college in the fall, are eligible for competition.

Basis of Scholarship Awards

  • Financial Need
As evidenced by the completed application and other sources. It is mandatory that the applicant be able to utilize 100% of the scholarship award. However, our aid may be substituted wholly or in part for loans or work study.

  • Overall scholarship record
Your grades, test scores (S.A.T, A.C.T, etc.), and your activities such as school newspaper and yearbook, Glee Club, co-op job, band varsity sports, volunteer work, National Honor Society, Student Government, Language club, class officer, plus any awards you may have received.

  • Character of applicant
Through letters of recommendation, outside activities (such as jobs held, etc.), interests and hobbies.

The applicant should be at least in the top half of his or her class and be recommended by the principal or assistant principal of the high school. Original letters of recommendation preferred which should be addressed to the Foundation.

The amount of the scholarship will vary with the need of the applicant. In the past, the yearly amounts have ranged from $500.00 to $3,500.00 and the number of awards between two and 18. The scholarship winners must be present to receive their award. Scholarship renewals should be made in late summer by the student, provided a satisfactory grade point average is maintained, financial need still exists, and at least 24 credits attained.

The Foundation has been proud of its scholarship winners over the years and is interested in their progress during college and thereafter. Because of this, we schedule yearly conferences and meetings to discuss school and other topics. The Foundation feels that it has a duty to its award winners over and above the yearly monetary awards, and holds itself open to render any help or advice that may be of benefit to the student.
